A big thank you to the nursing students at Blackhawk Technical College. Today we discussed many topics related to Vascular Access Devices. With all the different types of catheters, connectors and caps in our facilities, it is very difficult for the nurse to know the proper care and maintenance of these devices. We discussed the midline and it’s indications for use. It is key to develop policies and procedures for the devices in your facilities. When nurses are hired the preceptor needs to be knowledgeable in these devices. The student nurses today had great questions and the nursing instructor allowed me to insert a PIV in her today. Thanks Julie, you are a brave soul. The picture attached to this blog is from a class in Taiyuan China. I wanted to share this picture, I think it speaks volumes to the nursing practice. You definitely know who the nurse is!
