Are we seeing an increase in this complication of VAD’s post PICC and Midline placement? It seems like I have been getting more calls on this complication. We need to prevent this complication with our patients. Are we measuring the vein with ultrasound? Do we know the outer diameter of our catheters we are placing. Are we placing them in the largest vessel in the upper arm with the use of MST? Are we doing a thorough health assessment. It seems like that our physicians are routinely removing the PICC/Midline and placing another PICC/Midline in the other arm. What are your doing at your facility? Saving the line or pulling and replacing? I would love to have some dialogue and share practices via this blog. Please leave us a comment and we will share with all!
