Take your PICC: New guide aims to decrease dangers from long-term IV devices

This is a great read for all of us.  Like the “MAGIC

We are much more than PICC nurses.  We are the experts in vascular access device selection.  Our collegues look at the “PICC” nurse as the expert.  We need to build a team of experts in device selection, not just train PICC insertion.   Consulting with the health care team on the best device for therapy ordered should be part of every admission.  Most physicians are not trained in device selection and they order a “PICC”,  but they would want us to educate them on the best device for the therapy ordered or any patient contraindications.  Our team educates on device selection with every PICC/Midline insertion class.  The picture shown is a presentation in Shenyang China on Educating the Entire Team on the correct device selection.
