Patient Assessment

Posted on by Mary Smith

What are we needing to know to choose the right vascular access device for our patients? Our team spends a lot of time assessing the patient and their medical chart before we meet the patient.  We need to know type and length of therapy.  What is the ph and osmolarity of the of the therapy prescribed?  It is important to know their past medical history.   These are just a few items that are essential to choosing the right line.  When an order is placed for a VAT consult (Vascular Access Team) the physicians will trust that the team is choosing the right line for the right patient.  Creating a team of skilled health care workers to advocate for the patient can change and improve the culture at your facility.
