Nursing Matters November Issue

Posted on by Mary Smith

In the November 2012 Issue of Nursing Matters I read an article “Study finds strategies can reduce hospital infections”.   The article discusses ways to prevent Catheter Related Blood Stream Infections (CR-BSI).  It discusses adopting bundles of evidenced-based practices coupled with Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Programs (CUSP).  CUSP is a program that creates a culture that allows all health care providers to work as a team.  Nurses are encouraged to state their concerns to the physician about the patients line.  They are encouraged to identify how patients are or could be harmed and suggest solutions.  An example of this is to suggest the line should be removed when not in use, or replace the IJ with a PICC line if indicated.   Contact us at CVC Health Care.  We can assist you in developing a program for your facility.  One Catheter infection can cost your facility up to $30,000.00 and with the Centers for Medicare no longer reimbursing  for these infections, we can help you decrease these costs associated with CR-BSI’s.
