What a great 2016 meeting! AVA celebrated 30 years with a celebration Gala friday evening. Thank you AVA for an enjoyable evening.
What did I take away from the scientific meeting? Just a few quick thoughts, there are many more but can’t keep you here all day!. I will post more information and links to great resources in the weeks to come.
- Vascular access specialists, vascular access programs, vascular access teams are key to improving the patients experience. We need to understand all devices and do a complete assessment of our patients before we decide what device should be placed. We should no longer just place a PICC because that is what was ordered.
- Tools like “Magic” give us an algorithm to help guide the decision.
- Midline catheters ARE another tool in the toolbox.
- We are becoming a voice to be heard. Become the expert, review the literature, know the evidence and share it wit our colleagues.
- Collect data when you make a change in your process. If you go clinically indicated then start collecting the data. This will be so important to you and your quest for process improvement.
- JOIN AVA! If you are not a member you are missing out on learning from the leaders in the industry. This was again another great meeting and I am “hooked” as another network leader said.
