Having a skilled team of nurses placing an monitoring Vascular Access Devices is so important to patient satisfaction.  When patients know that they have a team of skilled experts checking in on them gives them a sense of security.  Patients often tell me that they are so impressed with the nurses at my facility.  They state that they feel safe and know that they are well taken care of.  No matter how big or small your facility is, you can create a team with little effort.  Placing devices is a skill that a specific nurse will want to do. Seek them out.  Find out who has an interest in this area.  Talk with the Radiologist, the Doctors and talk with your Director of Nursing.  Set up a meeting.  I find that sharing the goals of the team with administration is very helpful because they will support your efforts.  Set up an appointment with the CEO of your hospital.  Let them know what you need:  time for meetings, time to meet with vendors.  Attend AVA conferences,  become a member of INS and locate your local chapter of INS.  I live in WI and we have a great network of nurses who’s passion is to provide the best care possible for the patient with a line.   Any questions on how to create a successful team please post them and I will get back to you.
