Prevent Catheter-Related Bloodstream Infections

Posted on by Mary Smith

When caring for any CVC,  staff and patients need to be educated in prevention of  bloodstream infections.  Hand hygiene, masks, sterile gloves, sterile dressing changes and patient education are key elements in reducing infections.  Nurses and Doctors need to know how to eliminate infections.  Maximum sterile barrier precautions are required when inserting any central line.  Monitoring the site every shift and clearing “sluggish” catheters early can reduce infections.
